Bottom Line

This portable projector is great for business or 720p videos, but don’t toss out your gaming monitor just yet.

I remember wanting a projector for as long as the tech has been around. The idea of a massive screen, of being able to play games and have friends watch and enjoy along with you. Man was that first projector an ugly, heavy thing, but it made Medal of Honour an amazing experience.

Now things are a lot more portable and much brighter. At 1,000 lumens, the K335 is brighter than its brethren by double, which is great if you don’t happen to have a cave nearby to use your projector in.

The focus dial on the projector’s lens could do with some finer adjustment options, as often it felt like a slightly off focus image: at first glance it looks fine but when you really look at the detail or fine writing, you can notice the focus is off.

For work presentations, where text is not going to small this projector works a charm. It works in badly lit rooms without a hassle and at 1.3kg it is pretty easy to take into a meeting without arriving like you have just finished a gym workout.

For videos the low contrast ratio can make colours flat, making the projector less about a movie experience than tossing a video on a wall at as large a size as possible. With native resolution close to 720p, this works out perfectly well for YouTube videos, but won’t become your replacement for a TV when you are watching Blu-Rays. The 3W speaker is fine for a small room for presentations, but then you won’t be able to take advantage of the 1,000 lumens giving you a 120″ screen.

The feet of the projector don’t offer a great way to change the angle for projection, meaning you need to make do with a few books or a large box if you want to project on a relatively high expanse of wall. Small adjustments are possible by screwing the feet out, but it feels a bit unstable; not ideal for a meeting table which will be bumped often. It also takes a while to adjust, making it a problem if this is your projector for taking to a meeting.

The K335 is a workhorse and is made for office presentations in small rooms or focus meetings. Great for displaying images or running videos, it could have had better feet to deal with arriving at a venue with a relatively low desk and a slightly sharper focus system. You could use it for gaming or as a movie screen, but not if you are a stickler for fine details and quality.
