Google might have mistakenly announced its Google Voice update

A big update is coming to Google Voice and Google might have rained on its own announcement. Most Google Voice users could see “The new Google Voice is here. Try now.” at the top of their inbox.

Nothing happened when clicking on try now, however, suggesting that the update is still on the way. Google Voice is a call forwarding and voicemail service. A Google spokesperson told Digital Trends that is was an error: “Sorry, it looks like we must have dialed the wrong number. But don’t worry, this wasn’t a prank call. We’re working on some updates to Google Voice right now. We have you on speed dial and we’ll be sure to share what we’ve been up to just as soon as we can.”

The service has not been updated much since it launched in 2009. For example, the iOS app was last updated in June. Still, an update is better than taking an axe like Google Reader and Wave did. It is unclear what is being planned, but there is definitely an update coming out for the service.
